Congrats to me for winning the Dirtbags (cornhole) tourney at the party we threw this last Saturday night. Went undefeated through group play and knockout bracket, winning 7 straight. If my friends look like midgets, it's because I was on the medal stand.
On to the show stuff...
Lowering the drinking age seems nuts to me. Maybe it is because I am a parent. 14 years ago I probably would have thought it was a smashing idea. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26271328/
It is interesting that some NFL teams are moving in the opposite direction by trying to curtail heavy drinking at games, rather than promote it by inviting younger kids to join in. http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/8441544?MSNHPHCP>1=39002
I can tell you that after 25 or so major football games that I have been to here in London, both Internationals and club games, I find American sports (specifically NFL) to be FAR more dangerous and volatile when it comes to drunk and belligerent fans. I've seen 2 near fights here but there is an overwhelming police presence that stomps out any trouble ASAP. Additionally, fans are not allowed to drink at their seats during football games, only in the concourse before the match and at half time (bars closed during game play), so this cuts down on a lot of the drunk idiot fan factor. I've seen much more violence, trouble and just plain stupidity at NFL and MLB games.
That's not to say I won't be happily drinking at my seat at an NFL game when I return to the states. I will. Heavily. But I just hope to not get in a fight.
On a side note, it will be interesting to see if drinking is allowed at the seats during the NFL game here in London at Wembley Stadium. Chargers v Saints, Sunday 26 October. I'll be there so I'll have an answer!

7 Aug - Rock Star 2, Twins with no sex and... a Pants Missle? - 08/07/2008 |
|
Pants Missile. Where do I come up with these things. It's not from looking at myself in the shower, I can tell you that. I have more of a Pants Pop-gun. Like the cheap wooden toy you buy at the state fair with a cork attached to the gun by a string and you push the back forward and then - pop. Very unimpressive.
But, enough about me...
I think the celebs are a bit greedy with the having of all the twins. Do they really need all the money, fun, toys, public appearance hassles, public image problems AND all the kids?
Rock Band 2 track list- http://tech.uk.msn.com/gaming/article.aspx?cp-documentid=8897131 There are some great songs on there. If you are like me and have not jumped on the fake guitar star band wagon yet, this may be the game to lure us in. It will be out on the Wii later this year.
Wii Motion Plus http://www.nintendo.com/whatsnew/detail/eMMuRj_N6vntHPDycCJAKWhEO9zBvyPH Yeah this is cool. But, it's something else to buy. And in the article it talks about an "accelerometer" that you need to use in addition to the sensor bar. Another something else to buy. And I assume that the newer games will "require" the motion plus system. Grrrrrrr
Don't forget to watch the opening ceremonies of the 2008 Smoglympics, tomorrow night 8 August. And if I know the Chinese (err, well I don't... but anyways), they'll be busting out a big time show to kick the games off and make people forget about terrorism, earthquakes, unbreathable air and questionable government activities. Good luck with that!
Speaking of the Olympics... http://www.nbcolympics.com/swimming/photos/galleryid=178991.html Think we might ALL now be watching the swimming events?!

29 July - Oh Where Oh Where Does My Carbon Offset Go... - 07/29/2008 |
|
Don't know. But as DLC realized, we should find out. Check out the usage of your carbon offset charge on Expedia, Lastminute.com, etc before paying it. It seems to be a good idea in theory, hopefully it is good in execution as well.
Check your carbon score here: http://green.msn.com/tools/calculator.aspx Sure, it is a gross estimate but still something to learn from.
Watch "Toxic Tommy" and "Luda the Polluta" battle it out on the new green reality celeb show: http://www.treehugger.com/files/2008/03/tommy-lee-ludacris-planet-green-battleground-earth.php Then join us on the DLC Show as we discuss with our always insightful insights.
This story is pretty well closed but still, you gotta check out this spreadsheet of the canoe couple's plan: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/article1463781.ece

17 July - DLC vs The Surf - 07/17/2008 |
|
Have a good holiday, DLC amigo. Be sure to wear your little wooden statue necklace while you're surfing. Or is it make sure you don't wear it, can't remember. Either way, watch out for Vincent Price.
All of you out there that have not seen it yet, check out Eagle Vs Shark ASAP! http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0494222/
Some photos of my holiday to Cornwall and some of the Cricket match I attended on 13 July, to get you ready for our DLC Cricket Spectacular Show.
Beach near our "cottage" Kynance Cove - one of the most beautiful places I've seen! Guess the Griswolds didn't really knock it down. When you go to Lord's for a Test Match, wear white and tuck your shirt in. Monty Panesar bowling.
South Africa batsman, 4 England fielders (position names from left): Silly Mid On, Silly Mid Off, Wicket Keeper and Leg Slip. Pretty wacky names but I guess the Brits have no clue what a shortstop and catcher are. Or a pitcher for that matter. England celebrate the lone wicket they took this day. Cheers - KD

1 July - Wimbledon Experience - 07/02/2008 |
|
Friday 27 June
7:30 pm Arrived at Wimbledon Queue camp ground. #921 and #922 in line. They give you an official card with your number so there can be no queue jumping or question as to where you belong. Would have needed to show up between 5:00 and 6:00 pm to get a queue number under 500 and secure Centre Court tickets. Proper, flat, clean, comfortable grass camp ground with refreshment stands, nearby toilets, plenty of stewards willing to help and answer questions. People playing football and Frisbee in the surrounding field. A great start.
8:00 Tent up, time to start sipping some red wine and chatting up the neighbors.
9:00 Left tent and walked into town for another bottle of wine and some snacks. It felt safe to leave our gear zipped up in the tent on the camping grounds. There are stewards walking around all night so it is well supervised and safe.
11:00 Got lost trying to find the tent after going to the toilet. Make sure you take a flashlight and find some landmarks around your tent if you have to leave in the dark!
11:45 In the tent, trying to go to sleep. Listened to classical music on the iPod and also to white noise meditation type music. Didn’t sleep much…
Saturday 28 June
4:30 am Sun fully up. Woke up first time, tried to catch a few more zzzzzz but there were too many people waking and moving around us. 6:00 Up and at ‘em with tent packed up. Snarfed down an egg, cheese and sausage bap from the nearby refreshment stand.
For the next couple of hours, we moved smoothly through the queue as it travelled towards the AELTC. You walk next to a quiet, pretty golf course - not on a sidewalk next to a street so it is much more comfortable. Plenty of coffee stands and toilets along the way. We checked our tent and other small bags at the official left luggage facility, costing 1 GBP per item. At some point along the queue, stewards come by and ask you for which court you want tickets. They have a schedule of play with them so you know who’s playing if you haven’t already heard. We went for Court 1 since the Centre Court was full.
Then you just cruise through a bit more queue before reaching the ticket gates. The prices were very reasonable, 53 GBP each for our Court 1 seats, 6 rows from the grass – right behind the players. The prices vary a bit each day, becoming more expensive later in the Tournament.
We were inside the tennis complex by 10:00 am. Took some pictures, checked out the shops, walked around a bit. Ate Fish’n’Chips at 10:30 am, started in on the Pimms around then as well.
Took our seats at Court 1 around 1230 and watched 3 full matches: Venus Williams vs a Spanish woman with 4 names; Richard Gasquet vs Gilles Simon; then the men’s doubles of Mirnyi/Murray v Cerretani/Hanescu. It was so amazing to be there: the grass; the activities of the ball boys, umpires and line judges; the stellar tennis. Venus is truly a presence in real life and can fully hammer the ball.
Be prepared for the day to stretch out a bit as you are so tired from camping, it’s hot, etc. But a few coffees or cokes mixed in with your Pimms, you should be OK.
Wimbledon is likely going to be the coolest thing I will do while here in London. Highly recommended, truly a fantastic experience!

27 June - Wimbledon - 06/27/2008 |

Here's the tent and sleeping bags. We're really going for it! Camping out on the sidewalk tonight in front of the All England Lawn Tennis Club. Hoping for Centre Court tickets to tomorrow's (Saturday's) matches. Nadal on the grass at SW19??!! IT"S GOING TO BE AMAZING!

19 June - Jason #27 vs Anchorman #2 - 06/20/2008 |
|
So what are we most excited about - another Friday the 13th or another Anchorman? Would either of them really be any different? Jason will trap some unlucky chick in a sleeping bag and then bash her into a tree. Hopefully giving the adrenaline-fueled audience a glimpse of her boobs and/or booty first. Anchorman will use whatever jokes that were written for Ricky Bobby and/or Semi-Pro Jackie Moon that ended up on the cutting floor as all those characters are the same, just with different jobs.
I tell you what I would be excited about. A horror movie character fighting game for all the next generation gaming systems. Think about it: Mortal Kombat style gore and action, but you are controlling Freddy, Jason, Michael Myers, Wolfman, Dracula, Frankenstein, Mummy, etc. The fighting zones would be Haunted House, Graveyard, Basement Boiler Room, Castle, Spooky Woods, etc. Each character would have a fighting style determined by his movie presence; so Jason is lumbering but powerful and near impossible to kill, Freddy is quick and acrobatic, Myers is a grappler, etc. How about a finishing move where Dracula bites the neck and sucks all the blood from his victim until they are just a skin glove! Wicked!! Sure all the characters are owned under different studios and licenses and what not, but if it could be... it would be a killer game.
As soon as the wii fit is in my hands, there will be regular updates on my buffness. It really is going to change my life...

12 June - Don't Look At My Junk - 06/13/2008 |
|
Yeah, so I am not so excited about this... http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/article1282163.ece Sure it would make things safer, but I'd be pretty weirded out by the thought of showing my minimal assets to a stranger. Haven't done that since prom night and things didn't go so well then either...
The Euros are really putting on a great show of high quality football. Upsets are happening, wonderful goals are being scored, crazy weather is popping up; all the drama a good tourney needs. http://en.euro2008.uefa.com/index.html I'll make DLC a football fan one of these days... OK, probably not.

5 June - A World Without Hummers? - 06/06/2008 |
|
Ronaldinho-less Barcelona? It could be - he's rumored to be transferring somewhere this summer. But if you are in Chicago or NY on either of these dates, it would still be sweet to watch the football magic of Barcelona. And who knows, he may still be on the squad but be "auditioning" for a new team! http://web.mlsnet.com/news/mls_news.jsp?ymd=20080530&content_id=162084&vkey=pr_mls&fext=.jsp
All pro sports teams should take notice of what Aston Villa are doing (and what Barcelona have done): http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2008/jun/03/astonvilla.premierleague?gusrc=rss&feed=football
Looks like GM might do away with hummers: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24947044/ That would be a real bummer. I have always thought hummers looked fun. I see them on TV and on movies and it looks like hummers are a great time. They seem quite popular since you can type pretty much anything into an Interweb search and come back with some pictures or video of hummers. Now that I am a bit older, married, etc - its hard to think about getting a hummer. When I was younger though; going out all the time, partying, all I could think about was getting a hummer! But, if GM wants to do away with hummers, well... too bad for us I guess.

3 June - Importance Of Backing Up - 06/04/2008 |
|
Do you have iTunes? Do you have 5000 songs on your laptop? If it was wiped out, where does the music go... better think about backing up to disc or to a portable hard drive.
Mr. Obama has locked up the Democratic nomination. Congratulations to him and all who have worked on his campaign. Mrs. Clinton as VP? That's the latest rumour. Would she be a proper back-up?
Bands I am backing up right now: Vampire Weekend, The Frames, The Foals, The Black Keys.
Album that has the most play on my iPod this last week: "Disney Princess: The Ultimate Song Collection". Comes with being a Dad, I suppose.

27 May - Take Me To Your Leader - 05/28/2008 |
|
Wii love Mario Kart...
(wife's sister, friend #1, wife, friend #2)
Space travel rules. Sure, 500 million to send a robot to Mars to dig up some soil seems a little extreme. Especially when 500 million people in the world don't have any food. But, space travel rules. Watch the photos that pop up on the interweb over the next few months and look out for those little green feet... Here's a photo I took of the impressive Wembley Stadium before a match we went to last fall:

22 May Chelsea Blues - 05/23/2008 |
|
Fair Play to Man United on winning the UEFA Champions League. A thrilling match that came down to a terribly unfortunate slip on a wet pitch. Hopefully Chelsea will reload and be back for many trophies next season.
I am still a bit gutted by the result. Will post more next week.
Maybe this picture of our little girl Ceci will brighten the mood.

20 May Chelsea v Manchester United - 05/20/2008 |
|
The teams have arrived, the fans are starting to travel, the build-up is increasing. And tomorrow night it all comes together in the UEFA Champions League Final in Moscow, one match for all the kahooties. It will be on US tv; ESPN2 at 245 eastern, 145 central - so watch and enjoy. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/europe/7409559.stm http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/europe/7406252.stm I think it will be 2-1 Chelsea, with Ballack scoring first for Chelsea, Ronaldo scoring for Man U and then Drogba nets the winner for Chelsea. Frank Lampard sets up both Chelsea goals.
Here's an article on the possible trouble awaiting any drunk, celebrating English football fans: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/main.jhtml?xml=/sport/2008/05/16/ufnomon116.xml
In addition to that, as I mentioned on air, there are questions over the quality of the playing surface as it is brand new. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/7408082.stm Hopefully that does not spoil anything.
And also there are reports that Moscow is not the most fan-friendly place to stage this match as some fans are forced to pay $5000 for 3 nights in a hotel room!!
I don't have to worry about that much as I will be safe here in London, surrounded by Man United fans, trying to enjoy the match. Come on Chelsea!!!
Cheers - KD

15 May Boosh-tastic Concert - 05/15/2008 |
|
Check out the Mighty Boosh episodes, if you dare. It's pretty far out there, and quite British. For example, they say toilet rather than bathroom - which evidently I do as well. Julian Barratt was really cool to meet, very chill and genuine. Kind enough to sign my ticket stub. He plays Howard Moon, the guy in the blue paisley shirt you'll see if you hit the Boosh website at the below link. http://themightybooshsite.trinitystreetdirect.com/gallery.aspx Below is a link to a Boosh clip on youtube from one of my favorite episodes. It's called "The Power Of The Crimp". There is absolutely no way to a) explain the Mighty Boosh or b) set up the clip. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSIQ4IJAYfk
The Raconteurs rock.
Chelsea v. Man United in the UEFA Champions League Final in 6 days...

13 May Marvel-ous Movies - 05/14/2008 |
|
Yeah, so make fun of me. Don't care. Didn't have a chance to mention these on air, but no doubt DLC would have shredded me about it. I was a comic book collector back in the day. Still have loads of G.I. Joe comics among others. So these movies get me geeked up. As does the Justice League of America movie, which keeps rumouring around the industry. http://movies.msn.com/movies/hitlist/05-09-08_4?GT1=7701
Here's the article about GTA style games. Keywords: parental involvement and supervision. http://tech.uk.msn.com/news/article.aspx?cp-documentid=8288279
Two other cool articles I found but we didn't get to: http://environment.uk.msn.com/photos/gallery.aspx?cp-documentid=8072557 http://environment.uk.msn.com/features/article.aspx?cp-documentid=7976488 If these cities can be so forwardly and obnoxiously green, why can't all? Where is the government mandate that ALL US cities copy the enviro-friendly practices of Portland, OR? I would definitely live in an eco-town, would you? Better think hard about it, you may have to...

8 May Cherry-tee - 05/08/2008 |
|
After thinking about the terrible tragedy in Burma and other such things over which we have no control that happen in the world, have decided to donate to Red Cross on a regular basis. It seems insignificant but a little of something is much better than a lot of nothing, which is what I am doing now.
Feeling even more cherry-tee-bull, have bought my Mom's Day gift off this website: http://www.charity-gifts.org/world-vision-alternative-gifts.php You can do all sorts of things to help people all over the world, can "adopt an animal" through the WWF (not to be confused with adopting "the animal" through the WWE) or a whole slew of other heart-warming donations. Again, seems insignificant (and a bit lame, I admit) but so does sending roses or a fruit basket.
There, that makes me feel a little better after talking about GTA4, legalized porn prostitution and 22 year old sex-mate no-nos.

6 May - Gassy Clinton Obliterates Iran - 05/06/2008 |
|
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24453785/ http://www.thefreedictionary.com/pandering http://www.newsweek.com/id/134856/output/print
I'm not necessarily an Obama supporter. But if I had to choose, these comments by Ms Clinton regarding the "gas tax holiday" and "obliterating Iran" make the decision fairly easy...
Tragedies happen in the world. They are what they are. Hard to talk about on the radio.
